LIVE THE LITURGY
Jesus compares the Kingdom of God to a mustard seed, the tiniest of seeds. When planted, the tiny mustard seed grows into a tremendous tree with large branches. So too in each of our lives small things can have profound effects. God can use one of our more insignificant gestures to radically change another person’s life. It may be the kindness of a smile, our willingness to accommodate someone, listening to someone’s story, helping someone who is hurting, standing up for someone who is right or complimenting someone on something they did. We all have God given gifts and talents. What are some of yours? Our task is to use our talents creatively, consistently, lovingly, and generously. Because we are always guided by the Holy Spirit, things that may be insignificant or unnoticed to us can profoundly change the life of someone else. While we may think we are small and insignificant, God can make us large and magnificent. All we have to do is open ourselves to being used. We trust that God will take care of the rest.

Jesús compara el Reino de Dios con una semilla de mostaza, la más pequeña de las semillas. Cuando es plantada, la pequeña semilla de mostaza se convierte en un árbol tremendo con grandes ramas. Así también en cada una de nuestras vidas las cosas pequeñas pueden tener efectos profundos. Dios puede usar uno de nuestros gestos más insignificantes para cambiar radicalmente la vida de otra persona. Puede ser la bondad de una sonrisa, nuestra voluntad de complacer a alguien, escuchar la historia de alguien, ayudar a alguien que está sufriendo, defen-der a alguien que tiene razón o felicitar a alguien por algo que hizo. Todos tenemos dones y talentos dados por Dios. ¿Cuáles son algunos de los tuyos? Nuestra tarea es utilizar nuestros talentos de manera creativa, constante, amorosa y generosa. Debido a que siempre somos guiados por el Espíritu Santo, las cosas que pueden ser insignificantes o pasar desapercibidas para nosotros pueden cambiar profundamente la vida de otra persona. Si bien podemos pensar que somos pequeños e insig-nificantes, Dios puede hacernos grandes y magníficos. Todo lo que tenemos que hacer es abrirnos a que nos utilice. Confiamos en que Dios se encargará del resto.

St. Joseph does not utilize the methods

He does not dominate through anger or
defend by intimidation. God guides St. Joseph

Why are some saints honored as “patron saints”?
¿Por qué algunos santos son honrados como “santos patronos”?
Each person is unique and each of us has different gifts, interests, talents, and, yes, even struggles and areas where we need to grow. This is no less true of those holy women, men, and children who have been canonized or beatified. Because we believe that the saints and blesseds are both models of faith and intercessors, Christians have looked to certain holy people as role models and heavenly protectors for occupations, spiritual charisms, and even places. Although the Church sometimes names a person as a patron saint (e.g. Saint Philip Neri as the patron of Rome, Saint Clare of Assisi as the patroness of television, or Saint Aloysius Gonzaga as the patron of youth and young adults), more often it is popular devotion that inspires lay Christians to turn to a particular saint or blessed for heavenly help and support. This is how, for example, Saint Cecilia came to be honored as the patroness of musicians, Saint Toribio Romo as patron of migrants coming into the United States, and Saint Gertrude of Nivelles as patroness of cat lovers. Although there are official and unofficial lists of patron saints, we should always feel free to ask any and all the saints to give us their patronage and protection in whatever it is that we need.

“Tony, Tony, come around! Something is lost and it must be found.”
Did you learn this one when you were a kid? In my experience there are even a lot of lapsed Catholics — or people who were never Catholic at all — who know that when you lose something, St. Anthony becomes your best friend. Missing keys? Pray to St. Anthony. Can’t find your favorite sweater? St. Anthony. Forget where you parked your car in the mall lot? Okay, you get the idea. Whatever it is, large or small, important or trivial, Tony has a reputation for finding the lost things.
It’s a devotion that can seem a little like superstition — witchcraft, even? — if you don’t really understand it. Mumble an incantation to a dead guy and you’re guaranteed to find your sunglasses. But as with most traditions that are old, beloved and effective, looking a little closer reveals the truth of the matter.
When we lose something really important, what do we do? We make the whole household stop what they’re doing to join the search. Having St. Anthony as a friend means you ask him to stop what he’s doing to help, too. And how he helps is by taking the matter exactly where all matters need to go — straight to the feet of Christ.
Here’s the real genius of St Anthony: he takes the most mundane, commonplace occurrence — misplacing socks — into an encounter with the divine and truly all things great and small are gifts from God. He grabs our hand and points to the cross. “That’s what you’re looking for,” he tells us.
In the end, Tony doesn’t really find the lost things. He finds the lost people.

We pause and remember the 25 million people who have had to flee their countries in search of safety for their families. The Catholic Church has for decades taken seriously the plight of these vulnerable refugees and through advocacy, education efforts, and service provision sought to pro-vide increased protections for them. Pray for all those who seek a better life and future for their families.
PRAYER FOR MIGRANTS AND REFUGEES Lord Jesus, when you multiplied the loaves and fishes, you provided more than food for the body, you offered us the gift of yourself, the gift which satisfies every hunger and quenches every thirst!
Your disciples were filled with fear and doubt, but you poured out your love and compassion on the migrant crowd, welcoming them as brothers and sisters.
Lord Jesus, today you call us to welcome the members of God's family who come to our land to escape oppression, poverty, persecution, violence, and war. Like your disciples, we too are filled with fear and doubt and even suspicion. We build barriers in our hearts and in our minds.
Lord Jesus, help us by your grace,
To banish fear from our hearts, that we may embrace each of your children as our own brother and sister;
To welcome migrants and refugees with joy and generosity, while responding to their many needs;
To realize that you call all people to your holy mountain to learn the ways of peace and justice;
To share of our abundance as you spread a banquet before us; To give witness to your love for all people, as we celebrate the many gifts they bring.
We praise you and give you thanks for the family you have called together from so many people. We see in this human family a reflection of the divine unity of the one Most Holy Trinity in whom we make our prayer: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Amen.
